Why am I seeing "Camera Disabled" in my Android app?

Written by Whit

The "Camera Disabled" message in the Truepic Vision app on Android means the app cannot access your camera. This error prevents you from capturing photos or videos within the app.

Quick fixes — try these first

Most "Camera Disabled" errors are caused by one of these three issues:

  • No data connection: Move to an area with strong mobile data coverage. The camera will enable automatically once connected.

  • Camera permission denied: Open SettingsAppsTruepic VisionPermissionsCamera and toggle it On.

  • Developer Mode enabled: Open SettingsDeveloper Options → toggle the switch to Off → restart your device.

Data connection

The camera can be disabled if you have no data connection initially. Move into an area with a strong connection until the "Camera Disabled" alert disappears and the camera shutter is enabled. You can return to the previous location after this point without seeing the error again.

Camera permissions

If the quick fixes above don't work, verify your app permissions:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps or Applications.

  3. Find and tap Truepic Vision.

  4. Tap Permissions.

  5. Ensure Camera is toggled On.

Developer Options

If your phone is in Developer Options mode, disable it:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.

  2. Tap Developer Options in the settings menu.

  3. Tap the slider button at the top right to Off.

  4. Restart your phone.

Why Developer Options causes this: The Truepic Vision app requires a standard, unmodified Android device to ensure the integrity of its verification system. Developer Options signals that the device may be in a modified state, which prevents the app from enabling the camera.

If you cannot disable Developer Options: The app will not function on this device while Developer Options is enabled. You will need to complete your inspection on a different Android or iOS device that does not have Developer Options turned on. Your inspection link is not tied to a specific phone — you can forward it to any compatible device. If you do not have access to another device, contact the company that sent your inspection request to discuss alternatives.

Initializing Camera

If your app displays "Initializing Camera" for more than a few minutes:

  1. Restart your device.

  2. Turn off Bluetooth immediately after restart.

  3. Ensure no other apps are running in the background.

  4. Open Truepic Vision and try again.

Clear app data and reinstall

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, delete your app data and reinstall:

Note: Uninstalling the app removes all inspection answers you've provided so far but can resolve the "Camera Disabled" error.

  1. While the app is installed, open SettingsApps or Applications.

  2. Find and tap Truepic Vision.

  3. Tap Storage & Cache.

  4. Tap Clear storage.

  5. Uninstall Truepic Vision.

  6. Restart your device.

  7. Tap the smartlink from your text or email to reinstall Truepic Vision.

Still seeing "Camera Disabled"?

If the error persists after trying all steps above:

  • Restart your device once more.

  • Reinstall the app if you haven't already.

  • Contact support: Include a screenshot of the full "Camera Disabled" message, your Android device model, and Android version. We'll investigate further.
